Accessibility
To achieve our goal of making this website accessible for all people, including those with varying impairments, we have designed this site that includes the following accessibility standards:
Headings, text
-
Content is structured logically using appropriate tags to help with the use of screen readers.
-
Text is large enough and has the right contrast to be legible.
-
Text is in plain language that is understandable at the 8th grade level.
Color
-
Contrast requirements are met for all text, and elements on the layout of the site.
-
Color is not the only method used to convey meaning for a specific interaction or information.
Images
-
Images that add to the content of the site have descriptive alternative text, to be read by screen readers.
-
Text that overlaps images maintains contrast requirements for legibility.
Forms
-
All form elements have a descriptive label.
-
Elements are both visibly noticeable and announced by screen readers when they have focus.
Content with motion
-
Audio and video content does not start immediately.
-
The user can start, stop, and pause video and most motion.
Browser zooming
-
When the user zooms in on a page the content and elements are resized and reoriented appropriately.
-
Text remains legible with use of zoom.
Videos
-
Videos used include captions or transcripts for those who have limited or no auditory perception.
PDFs
-
PDF documents meet contrast requirements and are properly tagged for screen readers.
